As development continues to restore downtown’s Whiskey Row, one colorful tribute to its history was just added to the wall of a building at 118 East Main.

The building now bears a painted vintage-inspired art Four Roses Bourbon mural welcoming visitors to Whiskey Row. The building is located directly across the street from what are now street-front facades in an area that was once home to more than 50 distilleries, including 20 in the 100 block alone.

The building on which the mural was painted houses a number of technology companies, including Indatus, Spoke and Voitress. According to a news release from Four Roses, it housed the Four Roses operation, under the direction of founder Paul Jones, Jr., from 1884 to 1922.

Danville-based artist Kirby Stafford hand-painted the 21 x 28 foot-wide sign. It features a 1900s-era Four Roses bottle, with a metal plate and embossed roses, according to the release.

In the building’s lobby, Four Roses has leased space to display some of the brand’s memorabilia.

Meanwhile, work is progressing across the street on the $40 million Old Forester distillery. Plans for that project include an on-site distillery, a visitor tour experience, a restaurant, retail space, an event venue, meeting rooms, a bar, and an outdoor rooftop garden.

At a press conference last June, organizers of that project predicted the space would be ready for tenants in 2017.
