Latin All-Stars. Three of the city’s most celebrated chefs are combining their talents to create a spectacular culinary event at Seviche Jan. 30. Chefs Anthony Lamas of Seviche, Fernando Martinez of the Ole Restaurant Group (featured in this week’s EatDrinkTalk podcast) and Bruce Ucan of the Mayan Cafe will prepare an exclusive feast, with proceeds to benefit Partners in Health, an organization that provides aid to poor and marginalized people.
Care to be tempted? The menu includes specialties from each chef, including a Braised Lamb Tamale, Manioc Crusted Sea Scallops and Cochinillo Asado.
A ticket is $225, and includes passed hors d’oeuvres and champagne, a seven-course meal with wine pairings, a chef meet and greet, tax and gratuity. To make reservations or for additional information, please call (502) 473-8560.
When The Omni Opens — If you’ve been downtown, you’ve noticed how quickly the Omni Hotel is rising. Nothing is likely to have the impact on the local dining scene, and employment, than the opening of the Omni Hotel downtown in 2018. Check out the video (linked here), which includes the design of two restaurants and two bars (including a speakeasy that has a bowling alley).
I May Be Shopping Here: As a proud last-minute Christmas gift shopper, I have marked Dec. 20 on the calendar for the Bourbon Pop-Up Gift Shop at the Green Building in NuLu. Revelry Boutique, Art Eatables and Louisville Stoneware head the list of vendors offering bourbon-themed gifts. Also, there are samples from Elijah Craig Bourbon. It lasts from 5-8 p.m.
Christmas Songs and Spirits: Next week at Lola, the bar above Butchertown Grocery, local artists Danny Kiely, Pete Peterson and Bruce Morrow will perform music from “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” There are two shows, at 8 and 9:30, and a ticket is $35, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Who to Google?: Here’s an odd list — the top local Google searches by name for 2016, from an article in Business First, includes local food and drink writer Fred Minnick. Bernie Sanders tops the list, but Fred finished ahead of both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
“I know my books have become popular in town, but how the hell did I get this,” Minnick asked my colleague, Steve Coomes in a text. “Seriously, do you understand this stuff?”
