Labor Day may signal a slow time for restaurants, but that doesn’t keep the news from coming. First up is the announcement that the long-awaited Guy Fieri restaurant will open next week, which led Steve to pull out a bunch of Fieri-isms for his story about it at EatDrinkTalk.net. Two mysteries remain — what’s on the menu, and will the famed chef turn up in Louisville for the opening on Thursday?

Rick’s guest Carol Gunderson operates The Food Literacy Project at Field Day Farm (next to Oxmoor Country Club), and does a great job of teaching kids about vegetables, farm life and healthful living. She’s hosting a big fund-raiser with an all-star lineup of local chefs on Sept. 15 at the Clifton Center. Dawn Przystal, Steve’s guest, is a wonderful and cheerful ambassador for this month’s Kentucky Bourbon Festival in Bardstown. We’re making plans to go.

Why does bourbon go so well with Bluegrass music? You can find out at the Water Tower this weekend at the big Bluegrass and Bourbon Experience.

We recorded this show on Steve’s birthday, and we celebrated with our first in-show tasting. It’s some good stuff: a sample of the 2016 Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch, Steve reviewed this week. We’re also celebrating the addition of the show’s first sponsor with a big thank you to the folks at the Eye Care Institute. So clink a glass with us and enjoy the 17th episode of EatDrinkTalk.
