Barack Obama’s speech at the funeral of Jesse Jackson
Earlier this afternoon I happened to scroll past the live feed just as Barack Obama was beginning his speech. I listened to all of it. His words were well-chosen, powerful, at times humorous, and delivered with grace.
It was a reminder of how his presidency gripped so many of my friends, neighbors and a few blood relatives — nearly all of them older whites of my own generational cohort — and pushed them right over the MAGA lemming’s edge into near insanity.
I’ll never understand it. I’m just happy that I’ve avoided the worst of that particular form of brain rot.
