Beechmont Bakeshop opening day

Michael Hargrove and Danielle Beebe first announced their prospective bricks ‘n’ mortar bakery last September, and following a whole lotta prep work, opening day in the South End is almost here: Saturday, August 15.

Beechmont Bakeshop will be operating inside Foxing Books (1314 Bluegrass Avenue), where the bakery already has been doing pop-ups.

It also has been a community and farmers market staple.

I asked Michael for a preview, and he graciously provided background.

“We will offer a weekly rotating selection of breads, pastries and a small, focused cafe menu of 5 – 7 items that will change seasonally.

“We started this as a farmers market stand. Danielle (my partner in life and business) and I thought it would be a good way to contribute to our neighborhood and make some extra income.

“At the end of our second market season Kelly Nusz (owner of Foxing Books) asked if we wanted to do pop-ups and Saturdays during the off season. So we have been doing pop ups, bread orders and the farmers market for the past 4 years. Last year Kelly and Justin (her husband) offered us space in their building for a kitchen.

“August 15 is an informal ‘soft opening’, and then we will start our normal business hours on Tuesday, August 18.”
