Each year I try to set aside an hour on New Year’s Day to listen to this compact disc from way back in 1992 — although the subject matter is quite a bit older: New London Consort/Philip Pickett – The Feast Of Fools (La Fête Des Fous • Das Narrenfest).
There can be no confusion: “Lux Optata Claruit,” from the section called “Mass Of The Asses, Drunkards And Gamblers,” is drinking music of a high order, equivalent to “Gimme a Pigfoot,” “Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers, or “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight.”
