It’s a yearly celebration at the SoIN classic Mai’s Thai, but with a slight twist this time around.
Text:
It is that time of year again … this coming Saturday August 1st 11-2pm and actually this may be our last anniversary/birthday celebration said Mai herself. Free food/blessings giveaway at our restaurant. Come see Mai and wish her a happy birthday and cheers to the success of her business for 20+ years. Retirement is near for Mai

Mai Kungkran Meyers, owner and namesake of Mai’s Thai (1411 E. 10th Street in Jeffersonville) is a beloved Southern Indiana legend, and I speak for many in expressing appreciation that she chose to bring her culinary skills to the Right Bank of the Ohio at a time when global flavor options around here were quite few.
In 2021, F&D’s editor-in-chief Marty Rosen provided testimony as to why Mai’s Thai matters.
Letter from the Editor: Mai’s Thai is 20 years old, and there’ll be a party
Here’s an excerpt:
I’ve written about Mai’s many times over the years — as have, I think, all of the food writers in the Louisville area. When Mai opened in Jeffersonville, our F&D colleague Susan Reigler reviewed the restaurant for The Courier-Journal. She said of an order of Pad Khing that its hint of ginger was “as delicate as a butterfly’s wing. It fluttered through the light-bodied sauce draping the sliced chicken, scallions, and wood ear mushrooms … ”
I think it’s safe to say that everyone who has reviewed Mai’s has been inspired by both the food and Mai herself.
We attended one of Mai’s cooking classes a few years back, and it was a hoot. Mai is a born chef, educator and entertainer; for many of us, she is one of the culinary powerhouses in the area. If retirement is in the offing, best wishes to her.
I believe there is a family succession in place, and all the best to them, too.
