Synge, The Aran Islands The Irish Rover (2319 Frankfort Avenue) has been functioning as Eire’s unofficial Louisville consulate since Old Grand-Dad was in knee pants. Okay, that’s a very slight exaggeration, but the pub turned 30 years young in 2023, and the many plaudits have been earned. To me, the Irish Rover will always be Louisville’s most authentic Irish pub, and furthermore, I’ve always deeply appreciated these words on the Rover’s menu: “A pub is a poor man’s university.” In 2024, the Rover’s annual St. Patrick’s Day outdoor tent party endures.
